Chris McDermott

McDermott has been a PTCYSA staff coach since 2003. McDermott’s current coaching role is defined by working with the Lazers Academy boys, Lazers Select girls, and will be working with all ages of the recreational side starting in the spring of 2007.
 
As a player, McDermott has trained in various areas of the country and the world. McDermott grew up playing in the ethnic leagues of New York City and New Jersey, such as the Italian American Soccer League, and the Cosmopolitan Soccer League. McDermott received a large part of his training from, Paul Kitson, who also played in England for Charlton Athletic and Watford, as well as many teams in the MISL and NPSL.
 
McDermott played at the University of Hartford and at Quinnipiac College. McDermott has also trained with multiple teams outside the US over the years as well, such as the Trinidad & Tobago U-21 National team and Villaverde-Boetticher of Spain. McDermott was also involved in “Soccer for Christ” which was a soccer missionary group that traveled to Nicaragua back in 1992.
As a coach, McDermott holds the NSCAA National Advanced Diploma. Prior to relocating to Georgia, McDermott was on the coaching staff of the Eastern New York Youth Soccer. In Georgia, McDermott was a Women’s Assistant Coach at Clayton State University and a select coach at Rockdale Youth Soccer Association in 1998-2000 before moving onto becoming the Women’s Assistant Coach at Spellman College and a staff coach at AFC Lightning for three years from 2000-2003.
 
Personally, McDermott enjoys music and all sports. His favorite sports teams include Real Madrid and the New York Yankees. His favorite athletes include Dwayne Wade, Michael Jordan, Johan Cruyff, and Zico.
 
McDermott has a Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communications from Quinnipiac College. McDermott is a native of New York City, and currently resides in Riverdale, GA.
